IPL Skin Rejuvenation
IPL Skin Rejuvenation f.a.q.
What is an Intense pulsed light/IPL?
It is a non-invasive cosmetic procedure using a flash lamp light source which emits a broad spectrum, high intensity, visible light generating heat within the skin.
In this case the heat source targets cells responsible for collagen production.
Is this treatment suitable for everyone?
IPL is generally suitable for light to medium skin types as a darker skin may absorb too much light energy & are more at risk of burns or pigmentation changes.
During the consultation the clients skin type is determined by using a method known as the ‘Fitzpatrick Scale.’ This method classifies the clients skin pigmentation on how the skin responds to sun exposure. It ranges from Type I to Type VI. This is explained in the consultation.
A skin patch test is performed during the consultation which is required to set parameters & determine the comfort & effectiveness on the skin.
It is advisable to wait 24-48 hours prior to treatment depending on skin type.
Clients under the age of 16 need parental consent & in some cases a letter from their GP.
Medications, ongoing illnesses & treatments may affect a clients suitability; therefore, it is important to gain accurate information during the consultation.
What effect does this have on the skin?
By heating targeted areas of the skin, collagen, a natural & crucial protein, is stimulated improving texture & appearance as it promotes the natural healing response of the skin.
What are the results of this treatment?
Collagen is a natural protein providing structure in the body. It plays a crucial role in healing, elasticity & strength.
When these cells are stimulated by the heat the result is a brighter complexion with a more youthful appearance.
Most clients experience a noticeable change within a few days but depends on each individual. Following the aftercare advice & using good quality effective skincare will prolong the results.
How many sessions are required?
Collagen rejuvenation treatments can vary. A one off treatment can give results, but it is recommended to have regular treatments to maintain the effects & obtain optimal results.
4-8wks is an average recommendation, but always down to individual desire/requirements.
Does it hurt?
Most clients say there is minimal discomfort.
Experiences recorded are a heat & tingling sensation or a brief pin prick & any discomfort is usually brief. Any concerns can be discussed prior to treatment.
A clear cooling gel is applied to the areas prior to treatment improving the efficiency of the light energy into the skin & acts as a cooling barrier for client comfort.
What is the downtime of this treatment?
There is minimal downtime.
Clients can experience mild redness & swelling but this usually subsides shortly after treatment. A suitable cooling gel is applied after the treatment to calm & hydrate the skin.
Aftercare instructions are discussed in depth during the consultation & reminded to the client after treatment.
How much does the treatment cost?
Varies as dependent on size of area to be treated. Minimal cost $85 for half face. Clinic deals on offer will over ride minimal cost where applicable.
How long does each session take?
Including preparation time, the minimum visit takes 20-30 minutes.
If make up has to be removed this requires additional time.
